Wow! Some really great stuff! :-) Dread dude with the hands and the eye. Mohawk dude with the hands, the female person in the pinafore, the dancer with the rays of colored light, the moustache person...oooh and the clouds!
Defcon is a convention for network security specialists, right? Is there any kind of gathering, any at all, in the bay area that isn't also a psychedelic rave?
Nothing's wrong with it. I like that about the west coast. It's like a trade expo, but since most everyone there is going to be from California it's going to be a freak fest too. Any part of the country more than 200 miles inland from the coast would shake it's head and frown at the decadence. Except Vegas of course.
Damn dude, these are some pretty pictures. Why have I never heard of this event? I need more places to go with glowy stuff - I have *tons* of it from Burning Man. <3! Thanks for sharing the images.
It is possible to get good photos from any camera… if you're a skilled photographer. Something that's been grating on me a little bit lately, is I'll be out photographing somewhere, and people will say: Wow, that's an amazing camera.Wow, your camera is so good.OMG! [camera praise goes here]… and it's kinda like going up to a painter and saying: OMG, your paintbrushes are so good! The implication being that the quality of the art is entirely dependent upon the tools used, and not the artist.
I see lots of people, with far more expensive and higher-spec'ed cameras than mine, taking absolutely dreadful looking photos. I've taken amazing looking photos borrowing someone's small pocket point-and-shoot.
You can buy enough camera gear to take photos like I do, brand new for under US$1000. For US$1350 you can almost the same setup I used for two years (and did most of the photos on my journal with). (For used, cut that price in half.)
(I started off with a Nikon D50 and a 50mm f/1.8 lens (and the D50 kit lens (24-55mm))) (And I don't think I was as good then as now, but you can see here: http://foxgrrl.livejournal.com/tag/D50 )
hey, we experienced some of the same views of the storms and clouds(ncarolinakid and I). Totally enjoyed our connection, foxgrrl. Had a marvelous desert road trip, fun in LV and pretty beneficial conference and product trade shows. Keeping you in heart. T.L.
Thanks for the only good picture of the face mask I now have :)
For some reason, I brought along my camera rig, but didn't use it at all. I think it had to do with the lack of decent transport for it, all I had was a small bag that I didn't want to tote around. Instead, I shot everything on my Nokia phone, and it didn't look horrible, but it's not the same.
