It is possible to get good photos from any camera… if you're a skilled photographer. Something that's been grating on me a little bit lately, is I'll be out photographing somewhere, and people will say: Wow, that's an amazing camera.Wow, your camera is so good.OMG! [camera praise goes here]… and it's kinda like going up to a painter and saying: OMG, your paintbrushes are so good! The implication being that the quality of the art is entirely dependent upon the tools used, and not the artist.
I see lots of people, with far more expensive and higher-spec'ed cameras than mine, taking absolutely dreadful looking photos. I've taken amazing looking photos borrowing someone's small pocket point-and-shoot.
You can buy enough camera gear to take photos like I do, brand new for under US$1000. For US$1350 you can almost the same setup I used for two years (and did most of the photos on my journal with). (For used, cut that price in half.)
(I started off with a Nikon D50 and a 50mm f/1.8 lens (and the D50 kit lens (24-55mm))) (And I don't think I was as good then as now, but you can see here: http://foxgrrl.livejournal.com/tag/D50 )
