Date: 2008-01-09 07:49 am (UTC):-) In 2000 they sure did.
If it's a diebold voting machine....
I've never felt so dirty, so fucked and played than when I stuck my voting card in a diebold voting machine.
*rockstar icon btw :-) *

Date: 2008-01-09 08:26 am (UTC)You know if they really want the ease of electronics assisted voting that reflects the will of the voter then they would have touch screens and stuff THAT PRINT OUT A BALLOT in BOLD letters for whom they voted, and the citizen would put that ballot in the box to be counted. No chads, no cheating code.
You go, girl! and rock_that _vote. It may not count right now, but it's a hugely important tradition we cannot let die.
Lucky you in the blue. I live in Georgia....
Last pres. election I worked for Edison Media Research doing exit polling. I'm likely to do that again this year. You can do that too, I think, possibly.... www.edisonmediaresearch.com I just got a card from them saying they are looking for people to work (you get paid) and they had me update my info.

Date: 2008-01-09 05:33 pm (UTC)Interesting perspective. Thanks for the linklet :-) I agree. Democracy died in 2000. I was recovering from surgery and so wasn't able to be out burning shit as I should have, but I was at home burning one and crying as I saw George W. Bush have the balls out audacity to tell the US public to be "citizens not subjects". Fucker. I was there watching as the whoreporate media leapt on the creatively timed release of the story that recount demand leader Jesse Jackson was getting his reverend extramarital dick wet. I met Jesse.... he is a horny bastard, but at least he stands up when it's time and speaks truth to power.
Worse than 1980's Central American style electioneering is a complacent and zombie tranced American pretend election where we're so titillated by the soap opera that we don't see the theft in front of our eyes.
It would be nice, as the article says if we were conducting a fair and free election with an informed populace. This is a dog and pony show. All the hype and the silly packages on Obama's last outfit or how Obama rhymes with Osama.... and how both Obama and the president of Iran don't like ties..... is all Weapons of Mass Distraction with American Idol style tv production.
It would be cool if they really said something of substance because we citizens demand it. But at this stage is it really a war of posturing. It's like a work review....where the only bit that matter is the work you do right before the review. You'll see.... shortly before November they'll miraculously start caring about senior citizens again... they only give a crap about them every 4 years.... but because they're a major voting block they'll care as they would like to minimize suspicion towards the voting machines by keeping the exit polls close.
Julia's post couldn't have been more right on time. :-(
