Anyway, it sounds like the mirror flip-up thingy. There's like a little trapdoor in the middle of it, with a small spring, and it sounds like it might be that or something. Anyway, I've had that camera body fixed once before — the shutter — back in Dec 2005. And it has taken a few tens of thousands of photos since then…
Anyway, I need to see you when you get back, I've got some stuff for you. (The CD you left in my car, some of that teabery gum (last pack at Case de Fruita), etc.)
I did some research, and to get a D50 fixed, it needs to be sent back to Nikon or one of those other repair centers, and it'll take about 3-4 weeks, and cost about $200-$250.
