While everyone else today is talking about the nomination of the president's dog to the supreme court; Here is some current news about my life.
  1. I bought a new car yesterday; A 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. It's all silvery and shinny, and runs off batteries, and has Star Trek TNG screen displays, and voice-controlled GPS navigation, radio, and environmental controls. I want to hack it so that it can charge the batteries off of solar panels, and switch it into battery-only mode. That way I can commute to work every day using no gas. (For longer trips of course I'd have to switch it back into gas-hybrid mode.)
This is the single most expensive object I have ever purchased in my entire life. It cost more than my college education.
  2. I moved out of Jeff and [livejournal.com profile] tigrise's apartment. Exposition of ensuing drama will be journaled here at a later time. All of my stuff, including my computer, is still packed in boxes, so I'm writing this post from [livejournal.com profile] alakani's computer.
  3. I'm not sick anymore. I believe that there is a causal relationship between my current health, and #2 above.

Unfortunately, the Honda hybrids cannot be hacked to use only electric power, while this is a standard option (but not even an optional option in the US version) of the Toyota hybrid.

You can, though, still refill the batteries off of solar which will mean that it uses less gas to recharge the battery, but the engine will still idle and engage to accelerate the car.
