Table Saw

Is there anyone near Mountain View, CA with a Table Saw that I could use? I don't want to have to buy one just to cut a few two-by-fours; Nor sign up for a communal workspace; Nor rent one for a day. Basically I want to make some wood smaller, and I don't want to spend money to do so.

Home Depot does free cuts if they're straight. Sometimes they cost 50 cents.

Yeah, I haven't checked with all the hardware stores around here yet, although I know the nearby Osh has a sign that says that they no longer cut wood. Home Depot may still do so.

Home Depot, Lowes, Pine Cone all do straight cuts on demand, though sometimes there's a few cents charge. OSH no longer does cuts at most of their locations. There's a couple other lumber centers as well, to keep in mind. Mostly because every one keeps a slightly different set of lumber, especially the trim.

Noisebridge has a (slightly horrifying) table saw. Bit far from MV though.

Yeah I'd considered Noisebridge, but it's a bit far, and fitting 8 foot long boards into my car makes driving hard enough.

I know you're a bit short on upper-body strength, but if it's just a few boards, why not use a handsaw? If you're worried about it being straight, you could even get a mitre box. Yes, this entails spending money, but not very much and likely less hassle than bringing the wood to the saw.

She specifically asked for a table saw. This implies she wants to for example rip an 8 foot long 2x4 into an 8 foot long 2x3. It is quite difficult to make a cut that long with a hand saw and still keep it straight.

And oh, as for the suggestions involving lumber yards, they are set up to make cross cuts, not lengthwise ripping cuts.

Yeah, it'll be 48 linear feet of parallel cuts per board. And I'm planning on at least four of these. So that's 192 linear feet, or 2304 inches. Which is quite a lot to do by hand (and get straight).

I've got a circular saw, a jigsaw, some sawhorses and a workbench in Sunnyvale if you still need wood made smaller.

Actually I could possibly use a Router, and a drill press. The drilling I can do by hand; but the routing cutting, no so easy.

That's beyond my equipage. I know someone who definitely has a drill press, and might have a router, in Campbell. I'll ask today and let you know. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone with membership to the Sawdust Shop, and I don't think TechShop has woodworking tools.

No dice on the router or table saw- Josh says he wants one, but hasn't convinced himself to make the purchase yet.

We could set up jigs that would make my circular saw do all sorts of interesting things if you want, but if you have a source for an actual table saw or router that would probably be easier and more accurate.
