So, I'm signing up for Google Voice. It's possible to query a database of available phone number nationwide. So these are some interesting numbers which are available now. (You can go get one of these yourself if you want.)

Anyway, which number do you think I should use? All of the really simple patterns have already been taken (repeating, ascending, and descending digit sequences), and most dictionary words. It's as bad as the top level ".COM" namespace.

And these are some others I noted for some reason(s) that I now forget why:

so much love for gvoice. if you can wrangle a gizmo5 invite, it's great for forwarding to other countries, too.

507-FOX-MAIL

507 is the area code of my old hometown in Minnesota.

"507-FOX-MAIL"

Do not like. Spoken aloud, sounds too much like 507-FOX-MALE

The BINCODE variants are cool and all, but OTOH the 3128343434 one is not only easily remembered, it starts with the common SQUID proxy port :D. Thats gotta count for something.

I ended up solving that by going for a number that would be easy to speak: AABB123. That made it quite a bit more memorable despite that it doesn't spell anything clever.

Hate to be a party-pooper, but if you're just forwarding other 'phones to it, I'd save the cool numbers for somebody else. But if people are actually going to dial the numbers, I like the FOX-MAIL one. And 707 654 3221 is both an easy area code and easy number.
