By the way, my company is still looking for a malware analyst sort-of person. Really, if you can read a .pcap and write Snort signatures you're skilled enough for this position. Send me your infoz if you want an interview.

Oh yeah, you need to be able to work in San Jose, CA.

Wish I could, but these kinds of skills aren't something I ever stumbled across in my self-teaching. I'm sure you'll find someone qualified fairly easily though, with the market the way it is, there have to be a lot of people out there who really want the job.

Ah, wanted to add...I'd be pretty nervous about working for friends, that has such a potential to explode in very bad ways.

I suppose it's like saying, 'You need to know HTML.' Learning HTML takes an afternoon for most people. But when someone asks for that, they're often implying that you should know _what_to_do_ with HTML, including best practices and a large host of related tools and technologies. You get a rough pencil sketch of a site and then you're cut loose.

So this request is probably for someone who can be given a vague description of a problem often solved with the tools mentioned, and can then figure out a good solution.

It's probably not: Hey, write a rule to scan for this exact sequence of bytes in this exact context and print exactly this message. I can't be bothered to learn snort so I hired you! ;)
