I got violently ill again last night, and while puking my guts out on the side of the road (I couldn't reach anywhere else in time.) My phone fell out of my pocket, and hit the cement. It also got a few drops of vomit on it, so I had to clean it. And I think that when I cleaned it off, I accidentally got water in it, and shorted something out. Every minute or so, it thinks that a non-iPhome compatible device was just plugged in to the USB port on the bottom… but only for a fraction of a second. The bottom half of the touchscreen doesn't register touches anymore, so I also can't lock my phone. I can turn it off, but then it turns itself back on because it thinks it just got plugged into something.

So, assuming there's just water inside causing a short, this problem should resolve itself soon, I hope. But I can't really use my phone for anything other than playing my MP3s in alphabetical order. (The UI for that is accessible via the button, and the top of the screen.) (I really can't afford to get a new phone right now.)

That means that if you call or SMS me, I can't answer or reply.

I also got a ticket for $50 last night.

Shit. I hope it wasn't something you ate. You seemed quite hale when we dropped you off back at work. Did it all go south on the way home?

time to upgrade away from an iphone. Regardless, here's what might fix it, if it is in fact water damage and not drop damage: Shut the darn thing off, or take out the battery, if it's at all possible. Put it on your window sill for 2-3 days, ideally in the sun. Sometimes I use the HSF on my amd64 running seti to keep it around 100F or so... this will cause the water to leave in short order. Sometimes it will just work overnight. I used to demo this by dropping my nokia phone in a glass of water, and then have it work again the next day. After doing this over 20 times, the phone was still just fine after drying out..

Yeah. I'm with V here. Multiple episodes of 'violently ill' is not ok. You should be looked at and repaired.

I'm so sorry to hear about your phone on top of it. I love my new iPhone!!!! (I often think of you and yours when using it). I hope it heals via evaporation soon.

50$ tickets suck.

Tres sorry to hear you're having a rough patch, honey. Feel better soon. *pets to you and the phone*

I'd suggest taking the battery out, rinsing it with distilled water and then soak it in 99% isopropal alcohol (safeway sells it). If you can't take the battery out, just rinse it with the alcohol. I've fixed water damaged electronics this way before.
