1. Can anyone recommend a good dentist in the bay area? I think I may have cracked a tooth during one of my [laser] electrolysis sessions. (The anesthetic wasn't working, and I clenched my teeth trying not to scream.)
2. Can anyone recommend a good lawyer in the bay area? I just got a letter saying that I owe someone a lot of money. Except it doesn't have my correct name on it (completely wrong first and middle names, only last name the same), but it does have my correct SSN. I don't know if this is really my debt, or a mistake.

Dentist: Dr Thien Vu on Hillsdale. I think form memory it's something like 1660 Hillsdale. I have been going there for years, originally when it was Dr Malzone's practice. I went there for sedation dentistry because I needed a LOT of painful dentistry done at once. She works with my Cigna Dental, and they also can set up "Care Credit" for elective dental procedures like Invisalign.

I think it'll come up in the phone book as "A Center for Dental Excellence".

I don;t know if I get a referral bonus, but drop my name there anyway.

I have my next appointment in about 2 weeks.

A: check your credit report
B: Julian Lastowski, in SF, is a good guy. Fairness: I used to work for him, so there is some bias.

You probably don't need a lawyer for the debt issue yet. Start out by sending them a validation demand letter. See http://www.creditinfocenter.com/forms/sampleletter9.shtml for an example. Then carefully document all contact you have with them. Debt collection agencies violate the law as part of normal business operations and you can extract up to $1000 per violation from them if you catch them at it and have documentation. Read up on the FCRA and FDCPA laws. I've had some experience dealing with one of these outfits... If you wanna ask me about it hit me up on AIM sometime.

I don't know any doctors or lawyers in the Bay Area. I think #2 is a scam, though. I've had letters from people a long time ago saying I owed them money. Believe me, they ALWAYS got my name right!

They wouldn't need to run a scam if they've already got the SSN. It's probably a records screw up of some sort.

I have had excellent dental care from http://www.kennethblouiedds.com/ but they're in Fremont, probably too far away from you. They don't accept any HMOs, though, because they don't like HMOs telling them what procedures they can and can't do.

As for lawyers, they specialize in other things than what you're dealing with.

I might add that my dentist does take PPOs and works with my Cigna PPO dental plan.
