My paid Livejournal account expires tomorrow. The only paid feature that I really ever use is the poll feature.

I don't have a paid account, and still use the poll. So I vote no. Don't have to pay for the one feature you think you pay for but don't.

I faced the same decision last month, and let mine lapse. I don't miss the extra features at all.

Maybe go with a sponsored account. You get a lot of features but you have to look at adds. I have been thinking about taking the plunge there.

You don't want ads on your el j, do you? Ewwww. Postings of your art should be ad free, no. Plus, I kinda like your polls :-)

Oh, I forgot about the advertisements because I never see them. I suppose that's the carrot and the stick approach to getting people to pay Six Apart, or whoever owns LJ now.

I don't even see the ads anymore.
But as I've explained already, you don't lose the ability to use the poll function if you don't have a paying account. Trust me on this. I use it all the time, and wouldn't fork out one red cent for an account on LJ, mainly because I'm way too scottish to part with money for something I'm getting free anyway.
