  • Purple Hair

  • Tickets to Burning Man

I'm sitting in the San Jose airport at present, about to jump on an airplane to Las Vegas. I was was wondering if I should trim my public hair or something, so as to look my best when the TSA strip searches me... Little did I know... The guy who stands in front of the security checkpoint, checking drivers' licenses, can stick a little "SSSS" sticker onto your ticket. The thing I wonder is, couldn't a terrorist just pull the sticker off of their ticket and avoid the extra screening/searching?

Update: Corrected typos. (I posted this message as I was walking down the causeway, boarding the plane. So I didn't have any time to edit.)

Purple Hair SSSS Ticket

Huh. Every time I've had the "SSSS" on a ticket, it's been printed on there by the boarding-pass generator ... didn't know the checkpoint guy could do it too.

Never got a second look...& I often travel with blue hair & go to a lot less eccentric places than Las Vegas for a lot more (what they might term) suspicious activities than Burning man.

Have a great time. I plan to go blue again at some point when I get back from Nashville, TN (where I now sit).

BTW, good choice on the purple hair. Love to see it sometime!!

Check your picture links. :-)

Shiny hair -- looks good on you.

I've normally had them write SSSS on my ticket in pen, instead of using a sticker, but thankfully, it's been a year or two since I've been searched. So not wanting to get frisked now....

Yay going to Burning Man.... I'm in the middle of trying to figure out my logistics right now.

See you in Vegas.

Torn bits of paper from the strong adhesive on the sticker.

Of course, I've been known to demand that I be screened, so I'm weird.

I know some people print their boarding passes at home, and just Photoshop that right on out. Apparently there's no redundancy in place to prevent that.

AHAHAHAHA. But, seriously, good grief, you'd think the TSA would have thought about that hole ... apparently not.

I've never seen the sticker before, it's always been printed on my BP when I've gotten it. It DOES seem particularily lame.

I escaped that at SFO today, but did get sent through the air puffer machine, either because I was carrying two laptops or wearing a DEFC0N t-shirt or both.

I could swear that I had a security guy write SSSS on my ticket at one point, but I didn't get any extra searching. Think that was my last trip to Nashville.

Eh, it's not exactly what you'd call an efficient system. Or effective.

In the US, its tough to get anywhere on a train. Buses are faster. (And bus passengers have long been harassed in the ways airline passengers now are.)
