What's the worst that could happen...

Single woman, wandering around the streets of downtown San Diego, with $2000 in camera gear, at three A.M. Saturday morning, very noticeably taking pictures... What's the worst that could happen?

A group of hackers, driving 100km into Mexico, in my new car, with no passports, and no one who speaks Spanish, at one AM on Sunday morning... What's the worst that could happen?

An international incident.

1) You get FI'd by San Diego PD, who drop your camera on the concrete and forget to provide you badge numbers even though you ask several times. No police report, no insurance claim. Bye bye camera.

2) Your bodies are never found.

Jesus!

The worst that could happen? Here goes:

You could get stopped by the police, have your camera gear confiscated, and get arrested as a threat to national security.

Or...you could get mugged. Or worse, which I don't need to elaborate.

You have fun. I know I did.

I used to prowl SD at those hours with about the same value in camera gear. Cops never bothered me; if you freaked out at a cop car coming by, with expensive camera gear, they'd come find out why you turned tail, but they can't really be bothered with people who A) are not freaked out because they're doing nothing wrong, and B) obviously have enough $$$ for nice camera gear, and are clearly not dressed in a manner that denotes extreme poverty.

Worst that ever happened to me was some drunk frat boy insisted I take a drunken picture of him. I complied, he drove off into the sunset (rise?), not running over anything or anyone as he left...
